The Sixth form students have had some incredible achievements over the past year – here are just some of them:
Appearing in “Just” at the Edinburgh Festival: Ciaron Farrell, Edie Friar, Moses Ward, Thai Trinh , Jasmine Fredericks , Aaron Hibberd , Joanna Szlendak
Recognition at the Principal’s Breakfast for hard work and excellent progress
Becoming a member of the Growing Doctors Programme, which supports students who want to study medicine
Matthew Robertson: a bronze and a silver medal in the National Paracycling Road Championships
Joseph Alason: won the Cambridge Harriers Under 20’s Junior Challenge Athletics Cup. The cup has been awarded to the best athlete of the season every season, since 1946.
Jasmine Fredericks: published poet
Taking part in the National Citizenship Challenge
Ciaron Farrell: speaker and ambassador for the academy to become a Discovering Democracy school; this involved him presenting to Parliament!
Sam Green: completed a research project on the hidden dangers of sugar in UK food as part of his Extended Project Qualification; this involved him liaising with the Health Secretary, Jamie Oliver and Raymond Blanc
Tegha Omamogho: completing over 30 MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) on a variety of wide-ranging subjects
Anish Rana, Kevin Fernando & James Zhou: attended a summer school at the University of Surrey on Mechanical Engineering
Chloe Toland: part of Citizens UK National Mental Health Delegation to meet with NHS England
Basketball team with an unbeaten record
Jun Ling Chen: awarded a place at UCL summer school to study Maths
University places to study Mechanical and Civil Engineering, English Literature and Classics, Ethical Hacking, Economics, Law and Psychology to name but a few
Mana Mukhtar: won Young Scientist of the Year Award for the south east (see photo below); now heading for the national finals next March in Birmingham. Mana has also been awarded a Nuffield Research Project and the Photek Research Award
The students have shown dedication and resilience in preparing for and sitting their exams and completing their qualifications, and I wish them all the very best for results day.
I look forward to welcoming the new Year 12 students and the returning Y13 students in September.
